Superintendent Reports:

------A. WHS Student of the Month for January 2010:

---Student: ADRIANA ORTEGA, 12th Grade, presented by Mrs. Kyle. Her Parents are Santos & Carolina Ortega. Adriana was praised for having made a remarkable turn-around in her focus and direction, in the last year. She has Commended Performance on the English TAKS testing. Adriana is very busy in scholastic, civic, and church activities. After graduation, she plans to attend NTCC, studying Pre-Nursing, and hold down a full-time job! Her goal is Completion of the Nursing Program.

---Student: NATHAN BULLOCK, 12th Grade, presented by Assistant Principal Darren Swanner (Mrs. Poe was unable to present. due to Classroom Duties). His Parents are Alan & Shelly Bullock. Nathan is a dedicated and determined student, who has made a mark as a vital player in Athletics. He has participated in three (3) District Championships and numerous play-offs. Nathan is an Outstanding Lineman, 1st Team Varsity Right Tackle, and a State Qualifier. His plans are to attend Texas A&M commerce, and pursue a Degree in Agriculture. The Students were Congratulated and Received Plaques from the Board. --------B. Kudos for Kids, presented by Secretary Sandra Strickland

: --- WHS: KIM McCLEARY placed 2nd at the State Powerlifting Meet on Saturday, March 20th. KATARINA NITTMO was also a State Qualifier. Four (4) WHS Girls Powerlifters qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet. They were STEPHANIE RAMIREZ, KIM McCLEARY, KATARINA NITTMO, and REIGANN BARNHART.

--- Seven (7) members of the WHS Boys Powerlifting Team qualified for the Regional Powerlifting Meet. At Regionals, THOMAS FIELDS placed 4th Place in the 132 Class, BRANDON GREEN placed 3rd in the 148 Class and is a State Alternate, ASHTON SLAUGHTER placed 1st in the 181 Class and is a State Qualifier, JOSH TAKACS placed 4th in the 198 Class, COTY RODRIQUEZ placed 4th in the 220 Class and is a State Qualifier, BRANDON McGLONE placed 1st in the 242 Class and is a State Qualifier, and LUCAS HENSON placed 5th in the 275 Class. SLAUGHTER, RODRIQUEZ, and McGLONE will compete at the State Meet, March 27th, in Abilene.

---The WHS AG Mechanics Students all received Blue Ribbons on their projects for the San Antonio Livestock Exposition. Two (2) projects also received 1st in Class. In the Gates and Panels Class, JEFFERY BOONE, KEATON McELROY, and DYLAN BOUKNIGHT received 1st Place for their Entry Gate and Cattle Guard. In the Bumper Pull Stock Trailers Class, CODY JORDAN, JEREMY PRESLEY, SHALE LEMONS, KODY POLK, and BRANDON HARRISON placed 1st with their Horse/Livestock Trailer.

---Band members received medals for Superior Performance at the Region 4 U.I.L. Solo and Ensemble Competition. They included: JOEL SANTOS, COURTNEY BRADLEY, APRIL FRY, and ANGELA HOGEDA. Medal winners and State Qualifiers are: MINT SIRIJINDAPHAN, JARRIZE SANTOS, BREANA MARTIN, RANEY LOVORN, and MICHAEL GARNER. --- MMS: The Bravettes competed in a Dance Competition, Feb. 20th, at Quinlan Ford. The 8th Graders received a "1" on their Ensemble Dance and the Bravettes received a Double Division "1" trophy; meaning the team scored 90 or above on both of their team dances. They also won "Best of Pom" in the Junior High Pom category. The Bravettes showed exemplary behavior on a very long day of competition. MMS is very proud of their Dance Team. Sponsors are: Patricia Clark and Melody Swanner.

--- TUD KRIER. JOSH BOONE, and QUINTON KING participated in the Longhorn Autobahn Show, in Fort Worth. TUD KRIER placed 2nd in the Speech contest, winning a $1200.00 scholarship. JOSH BOONE placed 4th in the Team Penning competition, winning $500.00. QUINTON KING's name was placed in the raffle for a bull calf. Congratulations to these fine young men.

--- WES: CARLEY BABER, a 4th Grader at WES, recently let her hair grow out, just to have ten (10) inches cut off, for "Locks of Love". The hair was sent in and will be used to make a children's wig, for kids with cancer. It was all Carley's idea, and WES is very proud of her! C. Curriculum Report - WES Dancer's Performance, presented by PE Teacher: Connie Browning. The children performed three ( 3) dance routines. The first was an elaborate "swirling -turning" couples country-style dance to "All Shook Up" by Elvis Presley; the 2nd was a straight line-dance style performance, done to "(I'ma) Soulman". (Very Different!), and the 3rd was a coordinated 50's style pairs/couples dance, to the tune of "Standing on the Rooftop". The Students performed very smoothly and all those present were thoroughly entertained.

5. Audience Comments: --- At 12:26 p.m., The Board met in a CLOSED SESSION with several District Residents and Students to discuss "Personnel Matters”. The Board returned to OPEN SESSION at 12:46 p.m.

6. Items of Unfinished Business:

---A. Consider / Action on Proposals for Double Portable Classroom for the Elementary School Special Ed.; The new unit to be used for autistic children. (Background) WISD received two (2) proposal, as Follows: Comack Building Systems ... $52,704.00 & Morris Construction (local) ... $58,500.00. Superintendent Bosold said that he preferred to use a local company, especially since the building would be paid for by FEDERAL STIMULUS Dollars. --- As Recommended, APPROVED

--- B. Consider / Action on Proposals for the Middle School "B" Building Boys and Girls Restrooms Plumbing Project (Background) The District received two (2) proposals, as follows: Ashley Plumbing, Inc. ... $36,300.00 & Ford Plumbing (local) ... $28,500.00. Bosold stated that Ford Plumbing was preferred, as they had done good work for the District before, and they were local. --- As Recommended, APPROVED

7. Items of New Business:

---A. Consider / Action on the Cancellation of the May 8, 2010 WISD Board of Trustees Election, and Declare BY ORDER, that the two (2) Unopposed Candidates: Kraig Yarbrough, and Don Smedley, be Elected as Full Term Trustees. (Background) Board President Don Beaty has declined to run again. --- As Recommended, APPROVED

8. Personnel:

---A. Consider / Action on Resignation of: Vickie Forgy – WES, Connie Browning – WES, and Roxanne Weaver – WHS. The Superintendent has accepted these Resignations. (Background) Mrs. Forgy is retiring with 32 years of Service to the District. - As Recommended, APPROVED (Note: President Beaty expressed the Boards great sense of loss; with the departure of these fine and dedicated teachers.) ---B. Consider / Action on Contract Renewal for Teachers, Counselors, District Librarian, and Nurse - As Recommended, APPROVED the following Personnel’s contracts are renewed for the 2010 – 2011 School Year:

Discussion with Attorney Regarding High School Band Director Paul Bramlett (Background: Mr. Bramlett s been on paid administrative leave, following misconduct allegations) The Board went into CLOSED SESSION at 12:54 p.m. and returned to OPEN SESSION AT 1:32 P.M. The Board communicated via phone conference. ---NO ACTION TAKEN following this Session. 9. ADJOURNMENT at 1:32 p.m., Immediately following the Board’s return.
