Approve Request to dispose of 50 old discarded student desk/chairs and 2 dry erase boards 5. Superintendent Reports: ------ A. WHS Students of the Month: - ABIGAIL COOK, presented by Mrs. Casey Busby. Her parents are David & Krystal Cook. Abigail was the Homecoming Queen for 2010. She is a “A” Honor Roll Student for all four (4) years, a Student Council member, and Class Officer in numerous School Clubs. Abigail is active in Basketball, Varsity Track and Cross-Country, and is a FCCLA State Qualifier for three (3) years. Abigail plans to attend Dallas Baptist University after graduation. - LAYNE BRIGHT, presented by Mr. Pinnell. His parents are Stephen and Stephanie Bright. Layne is a “A” Honor Roll Student, and Student Council President. He’s also the Beta Club Vice-President, a FCCLA competitor, and on the Varsity Baseball Team. Layne plans to attend the University of Texas at Austin after graduation, and wants to major in NURSING SCIENCE. - Both Students were given plaques and the best wishes of all the Board Members; their Parents were also congratulated on their outstanding students. WELL DONE! --- --- B. KUDOS for KIDS, presented by Board Secretary Sandra Strickland: --- WHS --- The FCCLA had a competition with Mineola Highs School, to raise money for the “Make A Wish” Foundation. Our FCCLA raised a total of $969.39! ------ The Autumn Trails Pageant was October 2nd. Seven (7) girls participated. They are: Amber Brimer, Kimberlee Lopez, Abbey May, Kynzie Reep, Jalen Safford, C.J. Satterwhite, and Holly Stone. The winners were: Second Runner-up – C.J. Satterwhite / First Runner-up – Holly Stone / Autumn Trails Queen – Jalen Safford / On-Stage Question, Talent – Jalen Safford / Casual Wear (Tie) – C.J. Satterwhite, Jalen Safford / Evening Gown – C.J. Satterwhite / Interview – Holly Stone / Ticket Sales, Miss Congeniality/Howard Rosser Award, Photogenic – Abbey May - Congratulations to all of these Students! ----- - The Cheerleaders sponsored “Passionately Pink” day to raise money for Breast Cancer Research. Total contributions came to $200.00 ------ MMS --- Several MMS Students received awards from Winnsboro Center For The Arts, with the Green Found Art project. They are: Kennedie Williams, 5th Grade, four (4) awards / Nicole Giroux, 5th Grade, one (1) award / Ethan Rakich, 7th Grade, five (5) awards / Justin Haney, 8th Grade, two (2) awards. - MMS is very proud of these Students for representing our school with their school with their creative endeavors! ------ WES --- We would like to acknowledge the Students of WES who have made the beginning of the school year such a great success. Head Start, Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, and 4th Grade Students have striven to maintain good grades and good behavior during the first six weeks period. - WES is very proud of them! ------ A. Consider / Action on 2009 – 2010 Financial Audit, as presented by Arnold, Walker, Arnold & Co.: Mr. Andrew Arnold informed the Board that the financial audit had found “no-findings” or compliance problems. --- As Recommended, the 2009-2010 financial audit presented was: APPROVED ------ B. Consider / Action on District & Campus Improvement Plans for 2010 – 2011: ---Winnsboro High School, presented by Principal Susan Morton, plans to maintain it’s commitment to Student safety. She said Officer Glover is doing a good job. An emphasis on post graduation also is in the works as WHS is participating in the college consortium. A new computer lab is helping Students in the health and science field. Approximately 90% of the graduates are expected to continue on into college. ------ Memorial Middle School, presented by Principal Nan Saucier, is striving to improve the Students grasp of Mathematics, and improve test-scores in Science, Writing, and Reading, as well. Parent involvement has been a big help. Safety of the Students, as always is a top priority. ------ Winnsboro Elementary School, presented by Principal Kristie Amason, is working hard to prepare their Students with extensive cross-level instruction. The Students will continue to have high-tech teaching tools, like the new Smart Boards, used in their daily studies. --- As Recommended, the Improvement Plans for all Campuses was: APPROVED. ------ Due to technical difficulties; Dr. Mark Bosold, Superintendent, will present the Board with a summary of “ Time-On-Task” research, at a later date. This study will help the District improve its efficiency. Of interest; was a comparison of Japanese vs. American instructional student hours. The Japanese students are typically in school for 240 days/year, while U.S. students are instructed an average of 180 days/year. The Japanese students are also graduating with the U.S. equivalent of a Bachelor’s Degree, upon graduation. -7. Personnel: ------ A. Consider/Action: on the Resignation of Carolyn Williams – WES. Bosold extended the District’s thanks for Mrs. Williams' fine teaching, and wished her the best of luck in her new assignment, in Mt. Vernon. As Recommended, the Resignation was: APPROVED. ------ B. Consider/Action: on the Employment of Joetta Duffer, as Head Start Teacher – WES. Mrs. Duffer has previously served the District as a Substitute Teacher; and will be filling the vacancy, left by Mrs. Williams. She also has children in the District, and is highly recognized as a model parent. As Recommended, her Employment was: APPROVED. ------ 8.
