PARENTS AND CHILDREN MAKE A HIT AT THE SHINDIG SHOW

“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”! That was evident last Saturday night at the Shindig Show at the Cotton Pickin' Theatre in Point, Texas. A mother and daughter and a father and son showed that musical talent flows in their genes.

With so much confidence, 7-year-old Emily Worley got on stage with a big smile, eager to take the microphone. Anxiously waiting for the musical note from the band to signal the start of her song, “Delta Dawn”, lil’ Emily took the cue and never missed a beat, a word, or a note of the melody. She continued to impress the audience with her pixie version of “Walkin’ after Midnite”. Emily’s talent must be a proof that, she has always been listening to her mother’s singing.

Glowing after her daughter’s performance, Kelly Worley delightfully showed the source of that talent. As she presented her bubbly rendition of “That’s What I Like About You” by Trisha Yearwood and other song selections, the crowd recognized the talent passed from mother to daughter.

From another family root, come the Johnson's from Winnsboro. Nineteen-year-old, Stanley Johnson, delivered an old George Jones favorite, “He Stopped Loving Her Today” and then livened the tempo with Elvis Presley’s popular version of “Hound Dog”. Many people noticed his likeness to country singer, Randy Travis. They clamored for him to do a Randy Travis number, a request to which he gladly responded.

In his earlier performances at the theater, Stanley has talked about growing up singing and playing guitar with his dad. The opportunity was opened to see the source of Stanley’s talent. His dad, Russell Johnson, followed Stanley’s performance with a George Strait number titled “The Chair” and continued on with the country tune “Your Cheatin’ Heart” by Hank Williams, Jr. The spark in Russell’s performance is his spontaneity.

A very encouraging audience seemed to appreciate the mother-daughter and father-son aspect of the show by filling the tip hat for each performer.

Undoubtedly, when talent is passed on to the offspring, family pride runs high. Such is also the case among the Cason family, most of who are endowed with such musical talent as vocalists and instrumentalists.

The next Shindig Show will highlight Russell Lindsey for a country music extravaganza at 7:30 on Saturday, August 14th at the Cotton Pickin' Theatre in Point, Texas.
