“ELVIS” ROCKS RAINS COUNTY Elvis Presley Impersonator, Josh Davis, gave another sizzling performance at the Cotton Pickin’ Theatre on Saturday July 31st.. Energized by a huge crowd who eagerly came see a performance of The King, Davis did not disappoint the many fans. To those who missed his show, he promised to return to Rains County this month on August 21st. Anticipation mounted leading up to the performance of Josh, as each members of the Shindig Band performed. A great number of George Jones fans appreciated the songs selected by Freddie York. The Mr. D’s version of Santo and Johnny’s “Sleepwalk”, received loud applause from the many who remembered that tune of the 60’s. Joe Mac Ivy’s jazzy saxophone brought many people to drop their appreciation money in the tip hat. A touch of gospel music was rendered by the Cason Family Quartet and, also, Geary Cason, with his popularly requested song, “The Lighthouse”. When the Shindig Band hit the first few notes of, “C.C. Rider”, a thunderous roar erupted from the crowd as “Elvis” appeared. The impersonation of the King of Rock by the 17-year-old delighted the huge enclave of Elvis fans. Dressed in a white, gold beaded jumpsuit, he swiveled to the music, encourating loud swoons through-out the theatre So many people, young and old, were fascinated by the legend. During his concerts, Elvis had a ritual of giving out scarves and flower leis as he sang. To the song “Treat me Like a Fool”, Josh Davis reached back into the past and gave scarves and leis to the many fans that lined up in front of the stage. Many of the kids, who were brought by their parents, will remember the experience of watching an “Elvis” show and appreciate the songs their parents and grandparents loved to hear. It is made more special with a stuffed teddy bear they got from Josh as he sang, “Teddy Bear”. A touching moment came when Josh sang an Elvis’ version of “Dixie”. The audience, all up on their feet, joined in the singing. At the crescendo of the song, Josh delighted everyone as he flashed open a U.S. flag, designed in his cape. With such performance, the spirit of Elvis Presley lives on. |
