Anniversary Concert

There's no doubt that Crossroads Music Company has done a lot for the city of Winnsboro by bringing superb talent to the stage and getting attention from Texas media. Crossroads was conceived by Lynn Adler and Lindy Hearne five years ago, and they were back on stage November 27th to help celebrate the anniversary of this music venue.

The party was held at the Winnsboro Center for The Arts, the interim home of Crossroads, and a large crowd filled the building. Lynn and Lindy love Winnsboro as much as Winnsboro loves them, and they made sure the show included their classic, "On the Bowery."

Other favorites included, "My East Texas Piney Woods Home" "River Wide, River Deep" and "A Hundred Years From Now."

They opened with a wonderful rendition of "Autumn Leaves" to celebrate the season, and Kate Hearne accompanied them, picking the melody on guitar. This was one of my father's signature songs, and if I closed my eyes I could picture him and his guitar. It was a bittersweet moment.

Kate has matured into an outstanding performer. I remember her first concert at WCA several years ago when she couldn't completely hide her nerves, and her singing was a bit tentative. There is nothing tentative about her now. She knows how to present a song with nothing held back, and she literally makes a guitar sing. It is always such a joy to watch her and her father play together and let the music consume them.

Kate played several instruments throughout the evening, including a Dobro and one guitar that Lindy joked he had loaned her several years ago and not gotten back. "I guess it's hers now."

A student at South Plains College in Lubbock, Kate is focusing on commercial music taking classes in songwriting, voice, and instruments. You can sample her music on her MySpace Page It is always a special treat when she comes back to Winnsboro to share her talent.

The Hearne family is loaded with talent, and Lindy's son, Warren Jackson Hearne, made an appearance at the anniversary show. He lives in Denton and bills himself as a French Pop and Melodramatic Pop artist. To see just what that means and sample his music visit him on MySpace Warren has been featured on the Crossroads stage several times and appears in music venues across the country. He always enjoys joining up with kin and putting on a show.

Lynn and Lindy turned over the care of Crossroads to Stephen Marshall almost two years ago so they could go on the road and promote their latest CD - "To the Heart" To sample their music visit their MySpace Page.

More recently, Stephen turned Crossroads over to Gus Gustafson, who is the Winnsboro Community Liaison, as well as being a talented musician, actor, and singer. Gus has frequently appeared with Lynn and Lindy in concerts, playing harmonica and guitar, so they are confident that he will keep the spirit of music alive and well at Crossroads in coming years.
