Winnsboro 4-H Service Project

In memory of Ms. Donna McElroy, Memorial Middle School teacher, and Aubrey Mullinax, MMS student and former 4-H member, the Winnsboro 4-H Club donated their time on Saturday May 15 to landscape the pergola that was constructed at the MMS grounds in honor of Ms. McElroy earlier in the year.

Ten members of 4-H, along with their parents, were hard at work constructing a paved walkway, flower boxes, as well as planting and decorating the space for the school and community to enjoy.

What was once a lone pergola has now become "Memorial Garden", complete with an engraved boulder at the start of the pathway to remind those of its purpose.

The 4-H club would like to thank those who helped them in their efforts; Winnsboro Grass and Stone, Winnsboro FFA, Alco, Cornerstone Creations, and Lowe's all offered donations and/or discounts for the Club to complete a transformation they are sure will make the families proud.

MMS Principal, Ms. Nan Saucier and Counselor, Ms. Rene Lovorn were also a huge help in coordinating the event.

4-H Junior Project Leader and MMS student, Tud Krier wanted to organize this as his community service project because, "We want students to remember Ms. McElroy and Aubrey by being surrounded by beautiful things, just like they were."

The Club invites the public to visit "Memorial Garden" to enjoy the new surroundings and pay tribute to their memories.
