Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro Looking for a way to make a large contribution to your community without spending a dime? Donate blood. Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro will host a blood drive to help boost the blood supply in Wood County . The event will be held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, November 14. The blood drive will be held in the Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro Conference Center with the support of Carter BloodCare. Why donate? Every two seconds someone in the United States needs blood, according to the American Red Cross, but only five percent of the eligible U.S. population gives blood each year. Blood is needed for emergencies, people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell anemia and other diseases, according the Red Cross. Anyone in the community who is 17 years old or older, weighs at least 110 pounds and is in good health is welcome to donate blood. Donors must bring photo identification to participate. “Blood drives are crucial for keeping the blood supply level to help patients with chronic diseases and those in emergency situations,” said Vicki Johns, RD, LD, CDE, diabetes and nutrition service manager at the Presbyterian Hospital of Winnsboro Outpatient Education Center for Diabetes & Nutrition. “Residents of Winnsboro and the surrounding areas are always generous with our blood drives and we look forward to another successful effort.” For more information prior to the event, call Dannielle Rushing at 903-342-3991. |
