FROM THE LOFT by
Now that the Fourth of July is behind us, some folks think the best part of summer has passed. I would have to agree. The Fourth is my birthday, in addition to our country's, and our whole family usually gathers here at Grandma's Ranch to celebrate -- presents for me and fireworks to celebrate our Independence. I'm not sure which I get more excited about. This year being a long weekend, we had company for several days and were a bit disappointed that the weather was not nicer to us. It rained part of Saturday and Sunday, but I talked my two little granddaughters into taking a shower in the rain. That was fun for about five minutes until they got chilled. Everybody in my family likes to cook, so we had meat out in the smoker thanks to one son. Potato salad was a collaborative effort between a daughter and a son-in-law. Our daughter-in-law made a peach and berry cobbler that used up the last of my blackberries. Another daughter made a mixed fruit salad with strawberries, blueberries, blacberries and coconut. Yum! Another son made the most amzing succotash with corn, dark beans, tomotoes, roased garlic, and red onions. Just writing about all this food makes my mouth water. I think I'll go get a snack, but first here are a couple of pictures of fireworks we did at our house. The one that looks like a pillar of flame was the finale that went off closer to the ground.
