Voice Your Concerns
by Maryann Miller

The City Council meeting on January 14 at 6:30 has several important subjects on the agenda, with perhaps the most important being the proposal by Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to close Main Street from Carnegie to Coke road for the street-widening project. Their request is to close the entire stretch for an indefinite period of time, raising a number of concerns.

Since Main Street is one of only three remaining streets that provide access from one side of Broadway to the other, closing it entirely may create a traffic nightmare. There is also the question of what provisions will be made so emergency and police vehicles will be able to respond quickly.

Is this a well thought out plan? Is there another way to accomplish the needed improvements? Will this project move with the snail-like speed of the work at the intersection of Coke Road and Main?

If any of these questions resonate with you, or you have some better ones of your own, you are encouraged to attend the Council meeting at City Hall and let your voice be heard.
