Spring Trails

Spring is
busting out all over Winnsboro, and the 15th annual Spring Trails festival
is swiftly approaching. Now is the time to mark your calendar for May
3rd and 4th and plan to join in the festivities. As always, plenty of
activities are planned for adults and children.

The Main Street
Program has also planned a sidewalk sale on Saturday when merchants will
have items outside their stores at special prices. "Although Spring
Trails is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, it's not just for the
benefit of the Chamber," Judie Casey, co-chair of the event said.
"It's for the benefit of the merchants as well. People can visit
the various shops as well as browse the booths set up on the streets."
Some of the
great foods that will be available are turkey legs and sausage on a stick
that will be cooked by Jimmy Davis and all proceeds will be given to the
Chamber. All the other food - including an ice-cream booth sponsored by
McCrary's Hardware - will be provided by local venders. This is a home-town
event supported by home-town folks. Randy Lindsey will have Karaoke set
up on Market Street and the Smyrana Baptist Church will serve music with
their hamburgers.
It's not too
late to reserve a space at the event. Arts and Craft booths are available
for a $20.00 fee and food booths with one electrical hook-up can be reserved
for $55.00. "We've lowered the price from previous years which makes
it more affordable for church and civic organizations," Judie said.
Another planning
meeting for Spring Trails is set for April 3rd and 5:30pm at the Chamber
of Commerce office. Judie and her co-chair, Tim Davis, invite anyone who
is interested to attend. "We welcome ideas and suggestions from merchants
and other interested people," Judie said. "And we can always
use volunteers to help man the booths, especially the game booths for
the children. We'd love to have several teens volunteer as it's more fun
for the small children when the teens play the games with them."
Pre-registration
for the pie-eating contest is important and entrants can register at the
Chamber office or McCrary's Hardware store. The entry fee is $3.00. The
Best Dressed Pet Contest also has an entry fee of $3.00 and applications
can be picked up at the Chamber office or Market Street Pet Shop.
