Make
Way for the New

The corner of Franklin and Broadway has been the home of George Lemmon
Jr., Attorney at Law for some time, and recently the old building was
demolished. Long-time residents of Winnsboro will remember the building
as the home of a grocery store and service station that was built by Horace
Martin around 1938. Several other businesses operated out of the space
before it housed the law office and title company.
Bill
Jones with the Winnsboro Preservation League said that compared to other
old structures in the city, this one didn't have the romance or heritage
of say 200 Market Street, which used to be a Saloon. "But it is a
little sad when an old building goes down," he said. "We lose
something of our heritage when we lose those buildings."
