I would like
to take this opportunity to ask you for your vote on May 3, 2003. I would
like to serve the people of this community for another term as a member
of the Winnsboro Independent School District Board of Trustees.
I am a native
of the Winnsboro community. I was born in the East Point Community and
started to school there. When I was in the 2nd grade, my parents moved
into town so my father could work for my grandfather, A.J. Mills, in his
grocery store. I finished High School in Winnsboro in 1943. In 1944, I
joined the U.S. Air Force. I was discharged in 1946 and came back to Winnsboro.
I enrolled
at college and graduated from East Texas State Teachers College in May,
1949, and was employed by W.I.S.D. as a teacher/coach. In 1951, I was
given a job with an oil company and stayed with them for 3 years. I was
anxious to get back to working with children which was my first love and
a job I had been trained to do.
My family and
I moved to Quitman in 1954 so that I could begin to teach/coach again.
We went from there to DeKalb, Dallas, and then back to Winnsboro. After
moving back to Winnsboro, I worked as an Elementary Principal for four
years. In 1969, I was hired by W.I.S.D. again as High School Principal.
In 1982, I decided to go the classroom here to finish up my time before
retiring in 1989.
In 1994, I
was elected to the School Board for the first time. I have enjoyed serving
in that capacity since that time. I will surely appreciate the consideration
you may give me to continue in this important community roll.
