Antique Car Rally
by Maryann Miller

Over a hundred old cars and trucks rumbled through Winnsboro for the annual Autumn Trails Classic Car Show on October 26. Several hundred people lined Main Street at 10:30am to enjoy the parade of vehicles, and what a parade it was.

Many cars and trucks were decorated for the season, sporting pumpkins and even a giant spider, and passengers tossed candy out for the kids to scramble for. The parade was dominated by Thunderbirds, Chevrolets, Model A's and T's, but there were a few trucks, at least one Impala, a Rambler, and an unusual vehicle purported to be an original Ozark RV.
It was a busy day for area businesses as visitors poured through the shops downtown finding that one item they just had to take home or stopping for a bite to eat. Barbecue and sausages were offered on the street by local churches and those interested could buy tickets for a number of raffles being held.

Then it was off to the Swap Meet where about fifty venders set up tents with a wide assortment of merchandise from old dishes to tools, iron and wood crafts, and jewelry. The threat of rain held off on Saturday, so a nice crowd ambled through the park and took advantage of the bargains being offered.

The event culminated in a banquet at the City Auditorium Saturday evening sponsored by the Autumn Trails Car Club. Entertainment was provided by members of the Trails Country Center for The Arts. Anita Williams played several selections on harp after a rousing introduction by her husband, Rock-A-Billy artist, Lew Williams. Chantel Weeks from Winnsboro sang, and dancers from the Tap-Thusiasts group in Mount Pleasant, which has members of all ages, performed several numbers to the delight of a crowd of about two hundred and fifty people.
