WINNSBORO COMMUNITY FOUNDATION

The City of Winnsboro and the Winnsboro VISTA Program is pleased to announce the formation of the new Winnsboro Community Foundation.

Community foundations are one of the oldest philanthropic endeavors in America, with the first one formed in Cleveland, Ohio in 1914. Currently more than 832 community trusts or foundations across the US serve specific geographic areas, with 34 in the state of Texas.

Community foundations are independent, tax-exempt public charities created by and for the people in a local area.
They enable people with philanthropic interests to support the issues they care about, easily and effectively.

------They create long-tem assets for communities to sustain the people who live there.

------They build and strengthen the communities where people live and work.

------They bring to life a philanthropy that is visionary, diverse and inclusive.

The Foundation has a mission to be a catalyst for transformational philanthropy to improve the community. The fundraising process will begin in 2009, with a goal of accepting grant requests beginning in late 2009. The incorporation filing process to secure 501(c)(3) non-profit status for the Foundation began in Fall 2008. This IRS designation makes all allowable contributions to be tax deductible.

Winnsboro is excited to join the ranks of cities in our state that have taken the philanthropic initiative to raise and provide funding to non-profit groups and public projects that benefit the residents of the City.

The Winnsboro Community Foundation is one of the 2008 VISTA Initiatives made possible through a state grant from AmeriCorps, the domestic Peace Corps.
